Channels, the modern way
Modern channel backs are built differently from their grandparents. Instead of hand-stuffed pockets, each channel is usually a shaped foam core wrapped and sewn into its own sleeve, which keeps the rows crisp and repeatable when it is done right. The look is tidy, tailored, and very easy to get slightly wrong.
Done right is the catch. The channels have to be identical in width and crown, and the seams between them dead straight, because the whole design is nothing but repeated vertical lines; one lazy channel ruins the rhythm. We cut the cores from fresh high-density foam, sew the sleeves on our Consew machines, and dry-fit the entire back before committing a single staple.
