The second life of a workhorse bench seat
Aluminum fishing boats outlive everything attached to them, especially the bench seats. The hull will happily do another thirty years, but the vinyl cracks, the foam packs down flat, and suddenly a morning of jigging feels like sitting on a fence rail.
Bringing a bench back means starting under the cover. We check the seat base for rot or corrosion, replace the foam with high-density stock that keeps its shape through long sits, and fit new marine-grade vinyl stapled in stainless so lake water cannot rust the job from the inside. It is worth doing before winter storage rather than after, so the new materials go into spring dry instead of spending months sealed under a cover with old moisture trapped inside.
