Our other project involved upholstering an ethan allen wingback chair. First, we removed the old fabric and staples from the chair. Next, we cut the new fabric to size and attached it to the chair using a staple gun. Finally, we trimmed any excess fabric and reattached the legs. The entire process took about two hours, and the end result was a beautiful, like-new chair. We were very pleased with how our project turned out, and we would definitely recommend upholstering to anyone who is looking for a fun and rewarding DIY project.

Soft work for stiff wicker

Wicker is charming and completely unforgiving, so its cushions do all of the comfort work. Handwoven pieces are also never quite square, which is why we template each seat individually instead of trusting a tape measure and good intentions.

The cushions get foam picked for how the furniture actually lives: firmer high-density cores for daily seats, softer wraps for sunroom lounging. Covers are zippered so they come off for cleaning, and if the wicker sits near a porch door we steer toward fade-resistant fabrics that can take some sun without going pale on one side. New cushions change how a whole wicker set feels, usually for less than one new store-bought piece. This is the daily bread of our cushion services.
