What a channel back asks of us
A channel back chair looks simple until you take one apart. Every vertical channel is its own pocket, sewn separately and filled so the crown stands proud and even. If one channel carries a little more fill than its neighbors, your eye finds it from across the room, so we check the row twice before anything gets closed up.
Velour adds a rule of its own: nap direction. Run one panel against the rest and the chair looks like it wears two different fabrics depending on where you stand. We cut all the channels from one run of cloth, keep the pile falling the same way, and sew the long seams on our walking-foot Consew machines so the velour cannot creep while it feeds.
