An ottoman, from foam to piping
What should an ottoman feel like underfoot? Firmer than a pillow, softer than a bench, and consistent from edge to edge. Getting there is a matter of choosing the right high-density foam, since a footrest wants a different density than a seat, and an ottoman that serves as both needs the compromise struck carefully. We keep several densities on hand and let your feet cast the deciding vote.
Once the foam is right, the cover work begins. Panels get cut square to the weave, piping is sewn to outline the piece’s shape, and the corners are finished by hand. On our walking-foot Consew machines the piping seams come out even and sturdy, which matters on a piece that gets shoved around the living room daily. It is standard practice in our furniture upholstery work.
