Two wingbacks, one matched pair
Reupholstering a pair of wing backed chairs doubles the work and squares the difficulty, because the two have to come out identical. Side by side in a living room, even small differences shout. One chair can hide a compromise. Two cannot.
Keeping a pair honest means:
- Fabric from one bolt, cut so patterns land the same on both
- Identical foam and padding so they sit like twins
- Welt and trim run the same direction, chair to chair
Wingbacks add their own challenge with those tall curved wings, which need darts and easing to cover smoothly. We work both chairs in parallel rather than finishing one and copying it, which is the only reliable way to a true match on our furniture upholstery bench. Even the button placement on the inside backs gets measured off a shared jig so nothing drifts between chair one and chair two.
