If you have never heard of a gossip bench, it is the little telephone bench with a seat on one side and a table on the other, where somebody’s grandmother settled in for long calls. This one came through as a frame built by an Amish woodshop, which is about the best pedigree a frame can have. Local woodworkers send us frames because the last step decides how the whole piece is judged.
Upholstering one is small-scale work that rewards precision:
- Webbing and padding sized for a compact seat
- Fabric that stands up to daily perching
- Clean tack and staple lines around tight curves
Small pieces show every flaw at arm’s length, so the welt and corners get extra fuss.
